How long does it take to tour Old Fort Niagara?
If you don’t have much time, 2 hours is needed. If you have the time, plan on 4 + hours to see the demonstrations, guided tour, look at the views, movie, and really talk with the guides. It is a must see when you are in the area even if you are not a history buff.

Is Fort Niagara free?
Old Fort Niagara is operated by the Old Fort Niagara Association, an independent, not-for-profit organization established in 1927. We do not rely on tax dollars. Instead, the Fort is funded through a combination of admission fees, museum shop sales, and charitable contributions.
What happened at Old Fort Niagara?
The fort was captured by the British during the War of 1812 until being ceded again to the United States in 1815 after which time it served as a peaceful border post. Old Fort Niagara served as a training station and active barracks from the Civil War until the last army units were withdrawn in 1963.

The $8 fee to enter the park is paid to New York State. Unfortunately, we have no control over the parking fees that the State parks collect, but we do credit you by deducting the full $8 off of the ticket price to enter the Fort.
